On the 3rd & 4th of March, Metal Technology facilitated a Certified Passive House Tradesperson Course at our Head Office. The course was delivered by Tomas O’Leary and Emer Doyle of Mosart, with valuable support from Stella Farrell, who assisted with exam coordination.

The two-day program covered all the quality assurance aspects needed to successfully deliver a Passive House project and 12 Metal Technology employees participated in the training.

Alongside our in-house commitment, we are also dedicated to continuing the training of our supply chain and fabricator network – we were delighted to welcome delegates from Walsin and Thornton to also attend the course.

Our commitment to, and investment in Passive House training now brings the total number of employees within Metal Technology trained in Passive House to 16, including two Certified Passive House Consultants.

Across the two days, Tomas O’Leary, MD of Mosart, shared his 20 years of Passive House insights with the attendees. The training also included hands-on practical demonstrations, provided by Dara McGowan from Partel, using airtightness rigs and a bespoke wall sample provided by Metal Technology.

Last week Metal Technology participated in two key Sustainability events held in Belfast and facilitated by Queen’s University Belfast.

On Monday 23rd February, we attended the Passivhaus for the Public Sector in Northern Ireland event, held in the Canada Room, Lanyon Building at Queen’s University. This focused on the importance of good design: Reducing Risk, Cost and Carbon and was organised by the Ministerial Advisory Group (MAG) for Architecture & Built Environment NI.

The event explored how the Passivhaus standard provides a proven, low-risk pathway to delivering high-performance public buildings that reduce operational cost, carbon emissions, and long-term asset risk, while improving occupant health and comfort.

The day was run in collaboration with:
· Passivhaus Trust
· Passive House Association of Ireland (OFFICIAL)
· Queen’s University Belfast

Following the event we were delighted to welcome several speakers and delegates to our to our HQ in Antrim for a presentation and site tour, culminating in witnessing an air test on one of our Passive House windows, in our new state-of-the-art weather test rig, that is located in our recently completed R&D facility.

Caroline Ashe Brady – Chair of PHAI & Commercial & Sustainability Director at KORE Insulation
Ann-Marie Fallon – Co-Director Passivhaus Trust, Mentor Architype, BE-ST Board Member, Coaction Trainer
Sally Godber – Director Warm Consultancy
Barry McCarron – Managing Director, KORE Retrofit & Expert Advisor to Ministerial Advisory Group for Architecture and the Built Environment (MAG)

On Tuesday 24th February, we also attended Queen’s University’s Sustainable Construction Conference 2026, titled “Materials Matter: A Deep Dive into Material Innovation, Circularity, and Low Impact Design”.

With net-zero targets tightening, and carbon scrutiny increasing, material choices and circularity are firmly in the spotlight. The half-day event explored materials, circularity, and low-impact design, with a focus on innovative and best-practice. There were great insights from leading experts across the UK and Ireland, with real-world case studies, and cross industry perspectives that were all aimed at accelerating sustainable transformation across construction and the built environment.

As many of our customers will remember, we lost our dear friend and colleague Timmy Cummins in October 2023. Timmy was a remarkable person, working with Metal Technology for over 20 years. His technical knowledge of our industry, his easy-going nature and the ability to communicate at all levels were truly unique as a fabrication training manager to our customer network. He was also a key team player in our R&D department where his skills in developing new systems were invaluable. He continues to be sorely missed within the business.

In his honour and in support of Brainwaves NI, who supported Timmy and his family during his illness, we are putting in 5 relay teams totalling 24 people, including Timmys daughter Maeve, to run the Belfast City Marathon this year on Sunday 3rd May.

Brainwaves NI is Northern Ireland’s only volunteer led Brain Tumour research and support charity. The startling statistics are that more children and adults under 40 die of a brain tumour than any other cancer, yet the national spend on research is less than 1%.

We are aiming to raise as much as possible for this worthy cause in memory of Timmy with a target of £10,000 and appreciate any support our customers, suppliers, supplychain and friends can make.

CLICK HERE TO SUPPORT BRAINWAVES NI AND METAL TECHNOLOGY

Training is well underway and if you are local and can make it, you will see the team branded with Metal Technology and Brainwaves NI so give us a cheer along the route!

Thank you for your support from the Metal Technology and Cummins families.

It was a fantastic evening, featuring a timeline of the company’s progress from the mid-1980s to the present day, delivered by our Managing Director, Calvin Wilson. Alongside our founder, Brian McKnight, presentations were made to recognise the contributions of a number of our incredible long-serving team members, celebrating milestones of 20, 25, 30 and even 40 years of service! 👏

Magician Trevor Price kept everyone laughing and amazed with brilliant close-up magic, while Andy Heasley brought the room to life with fantastic live music. And there were even some unforgettable solo performances from our own talented colleagues: Lyndsay, Shaun, and Garry.

A wonderful celebration of our dedicated team, our shared achievements, and a major milestone in Metal Technology’s journey. Here’s to the next 40 years! 🚀

Metal Technology Ltd were proud to take part in the very first Learning Environments Northern Ireland event last week, held in the iconic Titanic Belfast. The conference theme, “Creating Modern, Inclusive Learning Environments for Every Child and Young Person”, set the tone for a very inspiring day.

The event was opened by Paul Givan MLA, Minister for the Department of Education, and brought together senior members of the Department, project architects, consultant engineers, and educators – all united by a shared goal of enhancing learning spaces across Northern Ireland. Key topics included: early years and special educational needs provision, sports and outdoor learning environments, modern methods of construction, sustainability and the green agenda.

Our own Tony Rosbotham and Connor Corry showcased Metal Technology’s Passive House range, highlighting our expertise in delivering high-performance glazing solutions for the education sector.

The Strule Shared Education Campus was showcased as a flagship scheme with six schools being accommodated in the one location in Omagh. Metal Technology are key providers in assisting in the design and delivery of the façade glazing on all Education Authority refurbishment, upgrade, and new build schemes in Northern Ireland.

A big thank you to everyone who visited us and for the insightful conversations! We had a fantastic day, rounded off perfectly with a Gala Dinner held next door at the beautiful Titanic Hotel.

We’ve had a fantastic few days at this year’s UK & Ireland Passivhaus Conference!

A huge thank you to everyone who visited us yesterday at the ICC Belfast – Tony Rosbotham and Connor Corry were on hand to showcase our Passive House Institute-certified aluminium glazing solutions.

It’s been an inspiring event highlighting the growing momentum of Passive House in large-scale construction, including an insightful site tour of Weavers’ Hall with GRAHAM Building – a major 459-unit Passive House student accommodation project which will feature Metal Technology Ltd’s Passive House Windows, Doors and Curtain Walling systems.

It was great to connect with everyone and we’re very proud to have supported the conference as a Silver Sponsor, especially as Metal Technology approaches its 40th anniversary later this year. Here’s to the continued growth of Passive House and the innovation driving a more sustainable built environment.
